The (Sewing) Struggle is Real: A 1930s Suit
It's been a while since I've posted, for several reasons, including the fact that I've been struggling with some unsuccessful patterns.
This right here has sucked up A LOT of time & mental energy. The original idea was to split the dress into a skirt & top, & add the peplum to the top. I have actually done this before with a different pattern--this one, however has some complicated pattern pieces.
The peplum isn't great, but it's the least of my worries. Still, the gathering on the peplum bothers me & should be removed.
The buttons are adorable, but the back length needs to be shortened (a standard alteration for me), and the neck opening is both too wide & too tall.
From the front, I look like a plaid barnacle. Not the look I was going for. I'm laughing because it is so, so bad.
That wrinkle is weird too. I will have to either deepen the darts in front, or take out some of the length between shoulder & bust point. Also the sleeves are too long & possibly too wide.
So basically, when I change everything about the fit, it will be adorable. *sigh*
Until I gather the strength to attack, it will remained bundled off to the side in my pile of UFOs.
I think this could be a fab pattern for you. I would probably try it in a plain (not plaid) fabric. IMHO the plaid is detracting from all the great seam lines and making it look too busy. Otherwise, I think the lines could be REALLY flattering! -xo Chris
ReplyDeleteMaybe I will try that on the next attempt. Right now it has cycled to the *bottom of my to-do pile. :D
