Spring Sewing Update
Thanks to allergies & a few other unavoidable things, I'm a bit behind in my sewing projects. So far, I've managed to finish a couple of the basics on my list.
First, my 1940s-style blouse:
This was pretty straightforward. I used a novelty printed cotton & this pattern (Simplicity 1692:
I changed the neckline to be a keyhole, like the one pictured below, added the trim, & even made the belt to match.
Next, a burgundy skirt:
I had taken it off my project list, but I decided I needed a plain skirt. I actually used the skirt pattern from one of my 1950s dress patterns & the patch pockets from this one:
I did a burn test on the fabric, since it had been in my stash for eons & I'd originally gotten it from the CoCo Bargin Basement. I'd thought it was a poly blend of something, but turned out to be a rayon/linen--score!
I had a little less of the fabric than I'd thought, which made the skirt a little more narrow than intended. I ended up leaving the hem long & going with a sort of 1930s silhouette.
With this tee shirt & vintage 1950s necklace, it skews rockabilly. . . not that I mind.
So that's the first two items done! Onward!
